One of the unexpected highlights of your trip to Slovenia could well be meeting a local person. The locals are incredibly warm, friendly and interested in visitors. When you ask a local if they speak English and they put their head down slightly and reply "a little", then trust us, they will be chatting away with you merrily within 5 minutes!
We have noticed to our delight that most Slovenians are still connected with nature. They may have a normal job, but almost everyone knows about herbs, flowers and trees and in most families they own some forest, animals and grow much of their own food. This is the life we came here to learn about.
Local Partners to visit during your day out
We also noticed from our own travel experiences here that even if you do know about the Slovenian local products, such as wine, farm products, honey and other stuff, it is often very difficult and sometimes frustrating to find them or arrange your own tour.
So we did something about that as well! We have been out meeting and organising local partnerships with English, German and Italian speaking producers, who you can go visit to see how they make their lovely products, do a tasting and hear some stories. We can arrange all this in advance for you so you do not waste time trying to find these places.. time that could be spent enjoying your holiday!
So a great way to meet the locals is to go to see how some local products are made or take a tour with one of our local guides. Why not take a horse carriage ride or visit a lavender farm and see how lavender soap is made, or pop over to the nearby eco honey farm for some honey tasting... fantastic. You can visit local farms to sample home grown products and last but not least.. you can go wine tasting!
We have also organised wine tasting tours for you in all of Slovenia's 7 wine growing regions, please just check out our "wine" page to see more details.
We have also teamed up with Slovenia's local TV chef, to offer you Slovenian cooking courses at the Lodge or at Richard's place about 40 mins from us. Richard only uses local home grown produce and will really give you a good days cooking, food knowledge, fun and the best bit is you get to eat what you cook!
