Autumn in Green Slovenia
In our humble opinion, the very best times of year to visit Green Slovenia, if you can get away, are in Spring & Autumn, so in April, May and September, October.
Green Slovenia is a tiddler of a country with more people living in villages than cities, but we are exactly in the centre of Europe, so we have so many completely different micro regions all over the shop, containing almost every type of weather, climatic, cultural, flora and fauna conditions that you might expect to find in other corners of Europe.
Being so small also makes it so easy for you to get around and experience the incredible diversity of Green nature here.. Get your logistics right and you will be amazed at how much you can see in one day without rushing around!
It means that in Spring the spectacular and overwhelming natural colour spreads firstly from the Mediterranean coastal regions past Lipizzaner Lodge into the continental centre of Green Slovenia and finally up into our 3 main Alpine regions!
So you really can just go 20 mins in any direction and see all the different stages of Spring appearing in just one country!
And of course, this also works in reverse in Autumn here! So you can have a wonderful chilly walk in the Alps with golden leaves fluttering around and then in the afternoon it is perfectly possible to be sitting outside at a restaurant by the Adriatic sea sipping a cappucino!.
We came up with the logo "Green Slovenia" many years ago to describe what you are gonna get when you come here and even in late Autumn, still expect to see a lot of Green here mixed in with the autumnal fire raging in the colour of the leaves.. as so many of the trees here are evergreen!
We do understand that the only time families can get away sometimes is in the school hols in the summer and don't worry, Slovenia is still spectacularly beautiful and surprisingly Green during the hottest months..
But think about it and play the percentages if you can.. Green Slovenia is the third most forested country in Europe, packed with rivers lakes, waterfalls, gorges and massive caves, we have sooooooooooo much natural water and all of these Green beauties are far more likely to be gushing with the seasonal flow of water to light them up even more brightly for you in the Spring and Autumn months!
An added bonus to organising your trip for Autumn or Spring is that Green Slovenia will be completely empty of visitors, as incredibly, so many people still think of Slovenia as just a summer destination..
This is bonkers and anyway, even in the height of summer, just a few of the better known tourist hot spots might appear a little busy, (depending on which country you come from and your definition of busy.. coming from a heavily populated island we really don't find any part of Slovenia busy at any time, especially if you know where the hundreds of Secret Places to Visit are)..
In September, we have strolled into the busiest cafe at Lake Bled and bagged a table with a stunning view of the lake and the castle on the cliff with absolute ease!
And autumn is not just about the golden, orange, red colours of the millions of trees here.. It is still lovely and warm and the days have enough light in them to enjoy the sunny side of the Alps!
Fruit is being harvested everywhere and Green Slovenia's 7 unique wine regions are bustling with colour and wine making.. it is simply a great time to be here!
So we hope you enjoy just a few of the autumnal photos we have included on this blog, maybe you are sitting next to the fire and planning your next adventure to Green, Golden, Red and Orange Slovenia!!
