Explore lots of secret Green places hidden away in nearby Planina, a village sitting above yet another Slovenian Disappearing Lake!

HIGHLIGHTS..

• Explore tracks across the massive Planina Disappearing Lake to find sinkholes and hidden caves, which gush with water to fill the lake in autumn..

DURATION..

this is a LODGE LOOP.. so you leave from the Lodge and come back to the Lodge..

Biking time about 3 to 5 hours, depending on loops chosen..

This is a longer ride, made possible with the E Bike, but should take most of the day if you go to see all the amazing green secrets along the way..

DESCRIPTION..

This is a really great way to get to explore in & around Planina, one of the least known villages in Slovenia, but packed with secret place after secret Green place!

The route is specially designed so you can get to see all the special viewpoints around here..

Take the beautiful, quiet, forested Roman road from Landol to Planina and then spend your time zipping around on the bike from place to place..

a secret part of the St James Pilgrim path to come home from Planina to Landol..

Bike through the village to see the Stork's nest on top of a chimney and then cycle on the raised road across the lake to see Haasberg castle, the donkey in the castle barn and find the hidden Skratovka cave, which is one of many springs, providing water to the Planina lake.

Follow a stunning track along another river with deserted water mills and start an epic bike ride up into the forest to find the massive Unec Crater..

This is a Karst collapse about 50 metres deep which was also used by the Italian army between the two World Wars to build bunkers along a defensive line. You can still explore some of the bunkers.. be carfeul, one exit opens directly out, halfway up the crater into thin air!

The E Bikes allow you to ride around the entire crater on perfect stone forest tracks to choose your photo points and then head back into the forest for another amazing view high up above the Planina cave, looking out over Rapunzels tower and Planina lake.

Bike back down into Planina to visit the tower and the cave.. In summer there are cave tours at 5pm lasting an hour, so possible to still join this tour and then bike home.

If you do not do the cave tour, either bike home or have a little look at some of the tracks across the Disappearing lake and return to the Lodge on the Roman road.

You WILL NOT find this adventure in any guidebook, but wow, what a day, only possible in Green Slovenia and with an E Bike..

There are so many things to see and do in & around Planina that we created this fab route so you can get a taste of most of them, be prepared to stop off longer during the day at the places that will really float your boat..

Please note, Disappearing lakes appear in the autumn and disappear in the spring, so you will probubbly be here when the lake is empty.. BUT still full of green wonder, with tracks, caves and mysterious sinkholes to find in the lush green paradise..
