IZOLA behind the scenes..

It was a beautiful spring day in April and we didn't have any guests arriving today, so we jumped in the car and in just under 40 mins, we were chilling in our fave place by the Mediterranean Slovenian sea, IZOLA..

If you have read any of our other articles and blogs on this little Roman Island town then you will know just how much we love the place!

It is our GO TO destination on the Slovenian seaside to have a stroll, an ice cream or the Slovenian version of Fish 'n Chips.. Calamari 'n Chips!

We totally understand why new visitors to Green Slovenia gravitate to the world reknown Piran and EVEN WE tip Piran to our guests as a MUST DO daytrip from the Lodge, taking just 50 mins to get there..

But it is soooooooo important to NOT try to squeeze Izola into your already bulging list of amazing secret places to go see on your Green Slovenian hollibubbles, but to give it the respect it deserves and really get to know the magic of the place!

If you do, then you will see that it is even closer to the Lodge at 40 mins away, direct on the motorway and that it has EVERYTHING that you might hope to find in Piran, but just a bit better!

It is easier to park up, walk around, relax, eat out and swim in Izola, but the only thing you will not get there are piccies of Piran!

Well let's get back to that lovely sunny April day and we parked up right next to the harbour ON the bit of Izola that is now a peninsular (an island connected to the land), but in Roman times WAS actually an island and this is where Izola gets it's lovely name, cos Izola means "island" in Slovene!

We have banged on enough in our multiple other articles about all the simple, but amazing things you can get up to here, so now we humbly invite you to come for a wee walk with us around the old town and capture a bit of that magic that makes this little Mediterranean Venetian town just so special.

But we can reassure you that every side street will either pop out at the sea or back at the little market place at the start of the island!

We would absolutely live in Izola in a heartbeat, but then guests would not be able to easily reach the Soca River, Lakes Bled & Bohinj and ALL the other amazing Green Nuggets you can also choose to visit from the Lodge!

As foreigners here too, we quickly realised that being able to pick & choose your day out for the coast, the lakes or the mountains is that extra special missing ingredient in getting the very best out of this little Green country..

So maybe when you see the Lodge and the amazing location we found for exploring the whole of Green Slovenia, North Italy and West Croatia (Istrija) so easily, you will realise how it is so ridiculously easy for our guests to choose to pop down to the Adriatic Coast, just like we do, for a coffee, an ice cream, a stroll, a swim and have yet another epic Green Adventure!

There is absolutely no doubt Izola was part of the Venetain empire..

This blog is all about the photos, so we hope you enjoy them below and that when you DO go visit Izola you make sure you have enough time to experience it all and discover the magic of Slovenia's true Diamond of the Adriatic..
